A fascinating country rich in magic and mystery. For thousands of years this timeless land at the junction of two continents and two seas has been a crossroads. Here for untold generations, at the northwestern most projection of the African landmass, trade, civilization, peoples and idea have flowed along the Mediterranean coastal plain… North into Iberian… South into the Sahara.
Morocco’s history is no less rich than its geography. Over the course of the years, its fertile coastal plains and mountains valleys have drawn the attention of such diverse conquerors as the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, vandals and Byzantine.
Yet two peoples have exerted a paramount influence on Morocco’s development: The Berbers, Original inhabitants of North Africa, and the Arabs who invaded from the deserts of southwestern Asia.
The vigorous culture produced by the mingling of these two peoples extended its influence north across the straith of Gibraltar into Spain and Portugal, east along the Mediterranean, littoral as far as Tunisia, and south into the Sahara to the ancient African kingdoms of Ghana and Mali. Under the proud Almoravid and Almohades dynasties and artisans left rich legacy that endures to this day.
